Stars Behavioral Health Group Joins Defran Systems as a Value Added Reseller

New York, NY – Stars Behavioral Health Group (SBHG) of California, an organization with expertise in the behavioral health and psychiatric hospital industry, recently became a value added reseller (VAR) for Defran Systems, a leading developer of EMR/EHR software for human services organizations.

The VAR agreement with SBHG was designed to offer greater choice and flexibility for California human services organizations to obtain an EMR/EHR from a peer organization with decades of experience navigating the particulars of the California human service environment.

Defran’s VAR program will help Human Services organizations with limited resources have an option for employing a state-of-the-art EHR system to automate their operations via a qualified reseller. The resellers would assume the responsibilities for implementing, training and supporting the end users of the software. Fran Loshin-Turso, Defran Systems’ President commented, “The new reseller plan is a win-win situation. It’s a great opportunity for agencies and consulting firms with specialized knowledge of Health IT to benefit by offering additional services.”

Through SBHG, human service organizations of varying sizes and needs can now implement Defran Systems’ Evolv-CS®, a fully web-based EMR/EHR that is currently being used by government and private agencies across 36 states.

SBHG will also function as a Management Services Organization (MSO) providing its clients with management services related to system implementation, training, and business operations improvement. Dr. Peter Zucker, Vice President of Clinical Services for SBHG, commented, “As a value added reseller, SBHG provides a lower cost alternative for implementing a California-Compliant EMR. Agencies can also select from a menu of services to strengthen their operations.”

Defran Systems launched the VAR program in late 2009. Becoming a reseller was an obvious choice for SBHG because of its extensive expertise and knowledge of the Evolv-CS system. SBHG has been using the software to manage its own agencies since 2005. Fran Loshin-Turso, Defran Systems’ President said, “With this arrangement, SBHG will add real value to the California behavioral health community. Having worked closely for years with SBHG, we are confident they have the expertise to provide the same high level of support to Evolv-CS users that we at Defran provide.”

Currently, there are two options for purchasing Evolv-CS through SBHG. One option is for agencies to sublicense the software from SBHG who will host and administer the system on their servers. The other option is to purchase an enterprise license with a full, on-site system implementation. Dr. Zucker, commented, “By adopting Evolv-CS, agencies will gain access to a fully developed EMR that includes forms, a treatment planner, management and financial reporting capabilities, and quality control and assurance systems. In addition, SBHG can provide management and consultation services in the areas of finance, personnel, training, quality assurance, and compliance.”

Stars Behavioral Health Group - Founded in 1988, SBHG provides behavioral health related services to thousands of children and families each year. The agency has over 30 specialized public facility-based mental health programs and a wide range of community-based support services throughout Northern and Southern California. For information about implementing Evolv-CS® please contact Mariko Yamada, Director of Business Development & Management Services, at (310) 221-6336 x 140 or myamada@starsinc.com.
